Dandenong Ranges Environmental and Bushfire Reduction Community Grants
The PPWCMA is providing an exciting opportunity for community groups and environmentally focused organisations to apply for large and small scale funding to implement projects in the Dandenong Ranges.
More than $2 million in funding was allocated for the Dandenong Ranges Environmental and Bushfire Reduction Community Grants, with the works to be rolled out until the 30 June 2017. $1.034 million was awarded to 29 projects in round 1 and the remaining funds will be awarded through round 2.
We are looking for innovative, solution orientated projects to improve the biodiversity of the Dandenong Ranges, but also balance and manage the bushfire risk of the area.
The grants are specifically seeking to support projects that can show that these two aims are complementary. That is, it is possible to improve native vegetation and habitat for native species (via actions like managing weeds and pest animals) while reducing (or at least not increasing) bushfire risk.

What types of projects will be supported?
A range of community-led projects will be supported through the grant funding. We look forward to hearing your ideas and hope to see groups working together.
The types of activities that will be supported through the Dandenong Ranges Environmental and Bushfire Reduction Community Grants include:
• Vegetation enhancement such as stock or vehicle exclusion from remnant vegetation
• Increasing community awareness and skills in managing native vegetation
• Increasing community understanding of bushfire fuel management and links to vegetation
• Weed management
• Fuel management
• Pest animal management
The guidelines provide detailed information on the types of projects we are looking for as well as the activities that will not be supported.
Who is eligible to apply for the Community Grants?
Community groups, public land managers and private sector groups are encouraged to apply for the Community Grants. However, it must be clear that the project is either community-led or a partnership.
Projects can focus on public land, private land or both, within the program area (see the map). Where projects are working on public land, two types of projects will be highly regarded:
• Those that are led by a community group (e.g. a ‘Friends of’ group), or
• Those that coordinate work across adjacent public and private land.
Please note: These grants cannot fund normal operations or maintenance responsibilities of the public land manager. It can fund work on public land that involves collaborations between the community and the public land manager.
What are the funding amounts for the Community Grants?
The Community Grants funding is divided into three areas, which indicate the size of the projects:
• Under $10,000 for small local projects delivered over 6 months or less.
• $10,000-$50,000 for medium sized projects undertaking multiple activities and delivered over one year
• $50,000 and above for large projects undertaking multiple activities at a larger scale and delivered over one year
When do applications open?
Applications for the Dandenong Ranges Environmental and Bushfire Reduction Community Grants Round 1 closed April 10, 2015. Applications for Round 2 of the grants will be open 18th
January 2016, closing on 11th
