Dandenong Ranges Wildlife Recovery, Weed Management and Fuel Reduction Programme
The PPWCMA is coordinating an exciting new program, designed to improve the biodiversity of the Dandenong Ranges while reducing the bushfire risk.
This program brings together environmentally focused organisations and community groups, Australian Government, Victorian Government, councils and agencies to find solutions and take action.
It is a program that considers the environment, the community, tourism and the future of this beautiful area, that is a vital part of Melbourne’s tourism industry with a thriving local community.
The Dandenong Ranges Wildlife Recovery, Weed Management and Fuel Reduction Programme, is funded by the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme which is providing $3 million over three years.
Over the next three years we will see a range of community-based environmental projects for wildlife recovery, weed management, habitat gains and bushfire fuel reduction throughout the Dandenong Ranges.
More than $2 million in funding was allocated for the Dandenong Ranges Environmental and Bushfire Reduction Community Grants, with the works to be rolled out until the 30 June 2017. $1.034 million was awarded to 29 projects in Round 1 and the remaining funds were allocated in Round 2.
