Jemena staff will get their hands dirty for the environment next Friday, when 40 staff from the Melbourne office establish 500 indigenous plants on the northern side of Mordialloc Creek in support of National Tree Day.
Jemena, formally known as Alinta, has committed to improving the local environment through partnership with the City of Kingston and Living Links. Living Links is a project to link parks, pathways, open spaces and communities across Melbourne’s south-east and improve the value and usability of its spaces.
The planting day on August 8 is Jemena’s first on-ground contribution to Living Links and complements the project’s aim to establish a series of corridors that will deliver natural, social, cultural and recreational benefits to the community.
Living Links Coordinator Wade Bland says Jemena’s planting day fulfils an important function in the Living Links project.
“Jemena is leading the way and being actively involved in this tree planting day; it is the first organisation to get its hand dirty for Living Links.” Wade Bland explained.
“Their contribution will improve the natural value of the area while their staff can also learn about the Kingston environment from local experts in the field.
“Our experience with corporate planting days is that they not only make a value contribution to the natural values of the area, but just as importantly they expose those taking part to the real value of putting your hands in the earth to plant a tree. It provides an incredible sense of contribution and achievement.”
Jemena has also committed to future corporate involvement with Living Links and Mr Bland is looking forward to the growth of the partnership.
“Organisations like Jemena play a very important role in improving the local environment. Living Links’ goal is to establish lasting partnerships between government, business and the community to improve the natural, social and recreational values of the south east.”
