The Port Phillip and Westernport CMA, Wyndham City and Melton Shire Councils will be holding a night of festivity on Wednesday April 29 for landcare and ‘friends of’ volunteers who have helped contribute to the protection and conservation of the environment in the Melton and Wyndham Shires.
This event is being held to celebrate and acknowledge the contribution groups and individuals have made in helping to protect, manage and enhance our natural environment. It will provide an opportunity for groups to meet and share stories and discuss common issues relevant to the local area.
PPWCMA’s Werribee West CatchmentCare Coordinator Sam Bayley says “groups will be able to hear others’ success stories and challenges and learn about the range of projects being undertaken in the area. We’ve also arranged a special guest speaker and we’re encouraging people to come along and enjoy some delicious food, prizes and music and share some of their stories.” Melbourne’s own Vox Bandicoot will be MC for the evening with local band Bold as Brass playing live music.
The event will be held from 5:30 to after 9:20pm at the Melton Civic Centre in Melton. Sam Bayley says these sorts of events are important to provide groups and their members an understanding of the value their activities play in making the whole region’s environment better.
“Its important groups understand they are not working in isolation but rather that their work can be part of wider plan to improve the environment. These sorts of events also provide the opportunity for groups to discuss projects that overlap and in some cases form networks or shared projects.
“Groups can also use this event as a chance to get their own members together and celebrate, or thank people, for the work they have done. We also want to provide the opportunity to highlight some of the great work that has been done in this area and encourage the groups to keep making a difference for this community.”
