On Track to Plant 1 Million Trees in the West

21 April 2017

‘Greening the West – 1 Million Trees’ project is an initiative that aims to deliver positive health and social outcomes and enhanced livability for communities in the western suburbs of Melbourne.

It aims to do this by providing more trees and vegetation for the local community through a collaborative program.

Greening the West Project Steering Group met recently at Presidents Park in Wyndham Vale to visit sites managed by Wyndham City Council.

12 organisations attended the meeting:

  • Port Phillip and Westernpost CMA
  • Wyndham City Council
  • LeadWest
  • City West Water
  • Brimbank City Council
  • Hobsons Bay City Council
  • VicRoads
  • Hume City Council
  • Conservation Volunteers Australia
  • City of Melton
  • Maribyrnong City Council
  • Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek

To date, the project has planted around 290,000 trees and hundreds of local volunteers have been involved through community planting events. 710,000 trees have been planned to be planted this year before the project end date.
