Landcare
Across the Port Phillip and Western Port region, thousands of volunteers, typically as members of over 500 Friends of, Landcare and community environment groups are actively caring for our land, water, native plants and native animals.
They strive to protect our public and private land from erosion and salinity, our creeks, coasts and wetlands from pollutants, and our native plants and animals from weeds, pest animals and other threats. This caring is a voluntary contribution to the future health of our environment and all the benefits that we derive from it.
These people, the groups they form, and the people who support these groups comprise the community landcare movement in the Port Phillip and Western Port region.
Landcare Awards
The Port Phillip and Western Port Landcare Awards are held every two years to enable the winning entries to be fed into the Victorian Landcare Awards the following year. The Victorian winners, along with the winners from other states, are the only entrants in the National Landcare Awards held the year after. The Victorian Landcare Awards are held bi-annually and are open to any one across the state.
