Representatives of Wadawurrung, Wurundjeri Council and Wathaurong Aboriginal Cooperative gathered with the PPWCMA, Hume City Council, City of Melton and City of Greater Geelong to discuss burn activities in grasslands in Melbourne’s west during the 2017-18 fire season.
Traditional Owners expressed their enthusiasm to continue to build their knowledge on fire as a grassland management tool and share this with landholders, local government and the CFA (Country Fire Authority).
This a unique opportunity for everyone to work together to understand and monitor how native grasslands in volcanic plains will respond to traditional burning practices.
This project is a part of the Valuing our Volcanic Plains Project’s Incentive Program. The project is supported by the PPWCMA, through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme. For more information contact Kangmin Moon on 9971 6503.
